The American Poetry Review is happy to announce that this year’s APR/Honickman First Book Prize has been awarded to Jacob Saenz for his manuscript Throwing the Crown, chosen by our guest judge, Gregory Pardlo. The book will be published in September, 2018 and will be distributed by Copper Canyon Press through Consortium.
We received over 800 submissions for the prize this year and are very grateful to have read so many excellent poems.
Jacob Saenz is a CantoMundo fellow whose work has appeared in Pinwheel, Poetry, Tammy, TriQuarterly and other journals. He's been the recipient of a Letras Latinas Residency Fellowship as well as a Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship. He serves as an associate editor for RHINO.
